Imaginary Beasts' "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" Gives Heart

“It’s time, it’s time; bring on the Pantomime.”  With this first (and now familiar) rhyme, we are introduced to another year’s imaginary beasts Winter Panto.  This year, we are treated to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, as told by the expert cast, lead by Director and Playwright Matthew Woods.  Though the production is not quite as fulfilling and neat as last year’s Kerplop! The Tale of the Frog Prince, this original production is an enjoyable treat for the whole family to experience L. Frank Baum’s world of friends, adventures, dreams, and finding yourself.

KERPLOP! Is a Splashing Success

imaginary beasts has gained notoriety for their impressive ensembles and inventive use of storytelling to transform an archaic medium into something wonderfully expressive and accessible for contemporary audiences of all ages.  I was ecstatic to see their annual Winter Panto, and I was not disappointed, as this year's panto surpassed many elements of last year’s award-nominated production.  This year, Kerplop! The Tale of the Frog Prince is a masterful use of a strong company of diverse cast members and purposeful storytelling that works on multiple levels of entertainment and humor.  For me, this Frog was King.

#Rumplestinkybum Glitters with Golden Goodness

Once upon a time, Brian went to see a fringe theatre production on a rainy Saturday; he was tired and grumpy. He was four shows into a long stretch of reviewing, and he just wanted to sleep. However, Imaginary beasts delights, surprises, and thrills with their 2014 Annual Winter Panto, Rumplestiltskin, or All That Glitters. This production truly shines under the artful, always intelligent, sometimes naughty but always nice director Matthew Woods. Once again, Woods assembles a top-notch cast and crew, and they play to great effect for audiences of all shapes and sizes.
