Boston theatre does not usually get the luxury of seeing original plays get a second draft and production.  Playwright and Producer Cassie M. Seinuk revives her award-winning Eyes Shut. Door Open. to critical success, sharpening the play’s focus, expanding key moments, and re-defining our understanding of this Cain-and-Abel story.  The production boasts many of the same delights, especially the thrilling cast, as the original production.  The trimmed script and additional technical resources allow the play to be seen with new eyes; the key, however, is for the play to be seen and appreciated for all of its spectacle and thrills.

"Citizens of the Empire" Boast a Colorful Cast, but Lacks Interest

With this appreciation for science fiction, its structure, its limitations (it’s not a flawless genre), and its predictable plot, I set out to enjoy this new play by Kevin Mullins.  The highlight is not the script, but in Lindsay Eagle’s outstanding work coaching and developing the talented troop of actors. Together, they rise above the derivative plot to create nuanced performances, interesting dynamics, and engaging moments that allow us to pause and reflect on where we are as a society, socially and politically, and where we might possibly be in hundreds of years.

Imaginary Beasts' "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" Gives Heart

“It’s time, it’s time; bring on the Pantomime.”  With this first (and now familiar) rhyme, we are introduced to another year’s imaginary beasts Winter Panto.  This year, we are treated to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, as told by the expert cast, lead by Director and Playwright Matthew Woods.  Though the production is not quite as fulfilling and neat as last year’s Kerplop! The Tale of the Frog Prince, this original production is an enjoyable treat for the whole family to experience L. Frank Baum’s world of friends, adventures, dreams, and finding yourself.
